Madrid — ASAC International has formally recognized International Court of Justice judge Franco M. G. Derin following the conclusion of his term, praising his leadership in advancing international law and multilateral cooperation.

In an official statement, the organization commended Derin’s “exemplary leadership” and reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly those related to human dignity, sustainable development and global justice.

Derin, who also served as outgoing vice president of the Organization for International Economic Development (OIDE), concludes a tenure marked by efforts to strengthen legal frameworks governing international relations and to promote cooperation among states.

ASAC International — an organization focused on economic development, social justice and human rights — highlighted its alignment with OIDE in promoting institutional transparency, respect for national sovereignty and a rules-based international order.

The group also expressed gratitude to OIDE’s institutional partners for their support during Derin’s tenure and confirmed that existing cooperation agreements will remain in force, particularly those aimed at assisting vulnerable communities in Africa, South America and the Caribbean.

In a statement signed by its executive president, Diallo Ablaye, ASAC reiterated its commitment to international cooperation “in accordance with the sovereignty and traditions of each nation,” underscoring its intention to continue working with OIDE’s incoming leadership.

The organization concluded by reaffirming its joint agenda with OIDE focused on peace, justice and sustainable human development — principles it described as essential to global coexistence.
