Madrid.— Iran’s ambassador to Spain, Reza Zabib, warned that if the United States fires “a single bullet” against his country, U.S. military bases will become legitimate targets for Tehran.
In statements to the program Hora 25 on Cadena SER, Zabib was asked about a possible U.S. military intervention in the conflict between Iran and Israel. In response, he emphasized that his country’s military capabilities “go far beyond what they can imagine.”
In his view, the easiest and most feasible path to peace is to stop the aggression against Iran. “Everyone has an ethical, political, and legal responsibility in this matter. Governments, international organizations, and even citizens must assume that responsibility,” he stated.
Zabib acknowledged that the possibility of a U.S. military intervention exists, but affirmed that in the event of aggression, “it no longer matters whether the attacker comes alone or with allies. When a people is attacked, the nation unites and responds with all its strength.”
“We already experienced something similar with the aggression of Saddam Hussein’s regime, which was supported by many countries. We are determined to resist, and our nation is united to face this new threat,” he added.
When asked if Iran would have the capacity to withstand a prolonged attack from Israel, the ambassador was categorical: “When a nation is attacked, it must resist no matter what, beyond its capacities.”
Trump does not rule out military action
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he is not seeking a war with Iran but made it clear that he is prepared to act if necessary to eliminate Iran’s nuclear program.
“I’m not looking to fight,” he said from the Oval Office. “But if it’s a choice between fighting and allowing a nuclear weapon, you have to do what you have to do.”
In recent days, Trump has intensified his warnings about a possible joint action with Israel against Tehran’s nuclear facilities. He also said that “it’s not too late” for Iran to give up its nuclear program.
In response to the refusal of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to surrender unconditionally, Trump was succinct: “I wish him luck.”
Khamenei, for his part, warned that any U.S. attack against the Islamic Republic would cause “irreparable damage to them” and assured that Iran will not yield to U.S. pressure.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Congress that the Pentagon is presenting various options to Trump as he evaluates the next steps amid rising tensions in the region.
