Bilbao, Spain. – In a call to action regarding the grave human rights situation, the Center for Community Development (CEDECO) from Latin America has issued an international statement demanding protection for human rights defender Diallo Ablaye. This panafricanist leader has been a victim of alarming persecution and manifestations of racial hatred in the city.

For years, Ablaye has faced a hostile environment marked by racism and xenophobia, and despite numerous complaints, the European Union has responded with troubling indifference. The situation recently worsened when an incident resembling a staged traffic accident left Ablaye with permanent physical injuries and without access to justice. Additionally, he has suffered the suspension of his salary for over 10 months, further increasing his vulnerability.

CEDECO has expressed full support for Ablaye, calling for the protection of his human rights, the return of his documents, and the cessation of death threats against him. The organization urged the Spanish and Basque justice systems to take immediate action to safeguard Ablaye’s life and announced that it will remain vigilant regarding the situation, making reports to the United Nations and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

The story of Diallo Ablaye underscores the urgency for an international response to protect human rights defenders in a context where violence and discrimination continue to pose a latent threat. The international community is being called upon to act to ensure the safety and rights of those who fight for justice.

CEDECO from Latin America has declared the following:

- Full support for Diallo Ablaye in his fight for human rights, especially in Spain.

- Support for his complaints in favor of justice and the protection of his human rights, including the return of his documents.

- A demand for the cessation of the persecution and death threats he faces.

- A call for the Spanish and Basque justice systems to take measures to protect Diallo Ablaye's life.

- Ongoing monitoring of the situation and reports to the United Nations and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
